At the age of 7 years she started working as child labor in the cotton fields of the Mississippi Delta. She "chopped" and picked cotton during season from 1935 to 1946. Mom lived in 12 states during her married life while Charles was preaching, teaching, and attaining his education. They were always very active in the Church of Christ, especially at Bostonia Church of Christ in El Cajon, California, where they were members for almost 40 years. Mom loved the church. She also loved to travel, reading, writing, yard sales, any kind of TV game shows. And of course she loved her San Diego Padres!
