--------------------------

Steven Craig Setzer, 69, of Prescott Valley, Arizona, died Feb. 2, 2016, at Yavapai Regional Medical Center - West Campus.

He was born in West Hollywood, California, to Roy and Lillian Setzer.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita; son Steve Jr.; and sister Cherie.

His parents, Roy and Lillian, and brother David preceded in death.

Steve had a strong career as a chef and restaurant designer for the Marriott Corporation. However, in the late 1980s he felt the continued call on his life and began studies at James College in Pacifica, California, where he graduated with Biblical Studies and Ministerial Studies degrees. He was then ordained at Pacifica Baptist Church as a Southern Baptist minister, along with ministering at the Linda Mar Convalescent Center in the Linda Mar area of Pacifica, California.

He moved his family to Prescott Valley in 1989. He was a Day Chaplain at YRMC-West Campus for 10 years; he also served as a contributing columnist for the Daily Courier and another local newspaper. Steve worked at First Christian Church DOC, St. Luke's Episcopal Church, and Prescott Area Habitat for Humanity's Re-Store. In 2000, he joined the homeless shelter ministry at Common Ground Ministries and from that time until present; he has served as senior pastor and shelter director.

Pastor Steve has ministered and reached out to so many in the Prescott area, most recently at Common Ground

Ministries for the past 16 years; many friends at Cracker Barrel Restaurant in Prescott Valley; and everywhere he traveled. His love for people was always bigger than life. He went out of his way to try to "make a difference" in a world where evil seemed to be growing. He always wanted people to know they had choices and that choosing Jesus Christ was a wise and eternal choice. He was known as being kind, loving and non-judgmental.
