Robert "Bob" Coffman Sandler, 91, a native Prescottonian, departed from us at peace, in Sun City West, on Jan. 28, 2016.
Bob grew up in Prescott working at Sandler's Market and entrepreneuring event concessions until after graduating from Prescott High School in 1942. He and both of his brothers, following in their father's footsteps, enlisted soon after graduating. Bob proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII stationed in the Caroline Islands. On Ulithi they cleared the islands vegetation to prepare the Naval station as the island was perfectly positioned to act as a staging area for the U.S. Navy's western Pacific operations and for months in late 1944 and early 1945, the large lagoon of the Ulithi atoll was the largest and most active anchorage in the world.
Upon returning from the war, he married his only 'true love', Martha 'Boots' Sandler and they eventually moved away from Prescott with their daughter, Georgeanne, finally
settling later in life in Southern California through retirement. Returning to Arizona in the 1990s, they retired in Sun City West where he could and did golf nearly every day for many years. Bob was a life member of the BPOE lodge, having been a member of for over 60 years.
Bob was predeceased by his wife, Boots in 2000; his brother Bill in 2010; and his parents, Carolyn (Coffman) in 1981 and Gilbert in 1983. He is survived by his only daughter, Georgeanne Kannard of Phoenix; his granddaughter, Michelle Bender (husband Robbin) of Phoenix; his grandson, Charlie Greenwald of Phoenix; and his great-grandson, Chad Kannard (wife Julia) of Phoenix; his brother, Ralph Sandler of Yuba City; his nephew Gilbert Sandler (wife Cynthia; kids Chelsea, Justin, Remington and Megan) of Yuba City; his sister, Anna Mary Turley (predeceased by husband, Keith) of Camp Verde; his nephews, Richard Turley (wife Barbara; kids Ryan (wife Jamie) and Missy) of Scottsdale; Randy Turley (wife Kelly; kids Troy (wife Brooke) and Stacey) of Roseburg, Oregon; his nieces, Susan Shamhart (husband Robert; kids Colette, Jodi, Jennifer and Robert) of Apache Junction; Sandy Wytroval (kids Trevor and Tanner) of Flagstaff; Phyllis Lupo (husband Paul; daughter, Bethany (husband James) of Mesa.
