SCHARF, Robert Evan


Norvel Owens Mortuary, Flagstaff, Arizona Robert Evan Scharf (November 19, 1937 - February 11, 2016) Robert Evan Scharf of Flagstaff, AZ, passed away on February 11, 2016. He was a former Goldwater Institute board member and co-founder of its Scharf-Norton Center for Constitutional Litigation. He was also a member of CATO Institute’s Club 200. After 30 years in the investment business, Evan retired in 1994 as a senior vice president for investments at PaineWebber (now UBS) to oversee his own assets and to pursue his public policy interests. He was born in Manhattan, New York, and graduated from Trinity College. He attended Harvard Law School and graduated from Harvard Business School in 1963. He began his career as a financial analyst with Loeb, Rhoades and then moved on to a general partnership at Wood, Struthers, & Winthrop, where he served on the investment policy committee and was responsible for major institutional accounts. Evan moved to Arizona in 1973 as CFO of a large real estate and cattle company, re-entered the investment business with PaineWebber, and co-founded a real estate investment company, Fountainhead Financial Group, for which PaineWebber served as broker-dealer. Evan was a lover of liberty and dogs. He is survived by his wife Sue and three sons Schuyler, Andy and Andy, along with five grandchildren.
