Steven Christopher Landes
(May 28, 1970 - February 1, 2016)

Steven Christopher Landes passed away Monday, February 1, 2016 in Mesa, Arizona. Born May 28, 1970 in Phoenix, he was the second of four children of Ilana Call Landes and Denny Landes.

He had many interests from a young age, including competitive swimming, hiking and other outdoor sports. These interests and sense of community led to him attaining his Eagle Scout as a teenager in the Boy Scouts of America and assisting in later years as leader at Camp Emerald Bay, California.

Steven had an outstanding sense of humor, a sincere interest in helping others and a strong dedication to self-improvement, earning several college degrees and only a few months away from completing his Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Northern Arizona University. He combined his natural people skills and training into a proud career in education, spending many years as a teacher, counselor and principal in Arizona primary and secondary schools. Steven was creative, passionate and sincerely interested in the many students he helped and educators he mentored.

Above all, he was loyal and protective of his family and friends, valuing these relationships and making everyone feel better when he was around.

Steven was preceded in death by his father Denny Landes, and is survived by his mother, Ilana Call Landes; girlfriend Erin Landry and her daughter Sophie; sisters, Krista and her husband Jim Leak and Tara and her husband Vance DeSilva; brother Denny Jr.; nieces Rya and Liv; nephews Davan, Casey, Sebastian, Wyatt and Corbin; and numerous aunts, uncles and countless friends.

He was truly loved by many and deeply missed by all the lives he touched. Steven’s life will be celebrated at a memorial service at the Christ’s Church of the Valley in Peoria, Arizona, on Friday, February 19 at 10am.
