| Winterset Madisonian, Winterset, Iowa February 24, 2016 ERIKA BEEM GORMAN, Casa Grande, Arizona Erika (Ricky) Beem Gorman passed peacefully on Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, in Casa Grande, Ariz., at the age of 94. She was born in Hof, Germany on Nov. 1, 1921, and educated in Schweinfurt and Frankfurt, Germany. She immigrated to the United States in 1936 and lived in Queens Village on Long Island, NY. Erika worked in her father's jewelry store on Jamaica Avenue in Queens Village until graduation from Jamaica High School. Following graduation she worked as a secretary on Fifth Avenue in New York City. Erika married Elzia C. Beem of Winterset, Iowa, on Sept. 21, 1943, in New York City while he was stationed there in the Navy during WWII. While Elzia was in the Navy they lived in New York and California. Following Elzia's discharge from the Navy, they moved to Winterset in 1947. She worked at the Madison County Treasurer's office, and retired from there in 1976. Following Elzia's death in 1977, Erika married Ernest J. Gorman in Yuma, Ariz, in 1981. Erika was preceded in death by both husbands, Elzia Beem (1977), Ernest Gorman (2004); and her parents, Conrad and Erna Scherm. She is survived by her sons: (Richard (Sherry) of Casa Grande,Ariz.,Rod (Jeri) of Winterset and Karl of Wrightville Beach, NC; six grandchildren; six great grandchilldren, a cousin, Doris Guay (Ronald) of Holden Beach, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at a later date at the Winterset Cemetery, for family and friends. Memorials for Erika can be directed to the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset. |
