James Elwin Meade, a resident of Cottonwood, passed away January 6, 2016.
He was born September 18, 1943 in Long Beach, California, the son of Elwin O. Meade and Beatrice O Copley.
He attended California State University at Northridge and received a degree in journalism.
Subsequently, he became a monk in the Self-Realization Fellowship, an East Indian order founded by Paramahansa Yogananda in 1920. He lived mostly at the Mother Center in Los Angeles during his 15 years in order.
Mr. Meade's life was a long and eventful spiritual quest, including several trips to the country of India as he followed his Vedanta faith and beliefs. During recent years, while living in the back country around Sedona, he produced deeply spiritual poetry and drafted a novel called "A Bubble in Time."
Further, he has been a participant in the activities of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Sedona, and his writings will be available in the parish library. A memorial service will be conducted at 10 AM on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at St. Andrew's, Sedona, 100 Arroyo Pinon Drive.
