| Norvel Owens Mortuary, Flagstaff, Arizona Karen Haskins (June 9, 1940 - February 16, 2016) Karen Lindgren Haskins, 75, of Flagstaff, Arizona passed away surrounded by her family on February 16, 2016 after battling an aggressive cancer. She was born June 9, 1940 to Roberta and Vern Lindgren in Ottumwa, IA. She grew up in Western Springs, IL. Karen married her best friend and partner in life, Raymond Knight Haskins, on November 9, 1963 in Western Springs, IL. They met and fell in love at Dennison University in Grandville, Ohio. Always a busy lady, Karen worked as a flight attendant for TWA for a number of years prior to turning her dedication to working with children. Karen spent 40 years as a teachers’ aid in the Amherst, NH school district, from which she retired in 2003. Upon retirement, Karen and Ray moved to Flagstaff in 2007 to be closer to their daughter, Kristin Haskins (Kahl), son-in-law, David Kahl, and two grandsons, Ray Kahl (10) and A.J. Kahl (8). Karen and Ray’s son, Robert Haskins, moved from New Hampshire to Flagstaff shortly afterwards. In addition to working with kids, Karen loved animals, especially her two cats, live music, travel, gardening, reading, puzzles, and volunteering for organizations like The Arboretum at Flagstaff and the Flagstaff Family Food Center. Karen’s zest for life and bottomless energy enabled her to actively participate in the local PEO chapter and serve as a devoted member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Amherst, NH and Living Christ Lutheran Church in Flagstaff, AZ. Karen is survived by her husband, Ray, older brother, John Lindgren, three nephews, Eric, Ryan and Marc Lindgren, son, Robert Haskins, daughter, Kristin Haskins, son-in-law, David Kahl, and two amazing grandsons, Ray and A.J. Kahl. She left us too soon, but she will be lovingly remembered as a woman with an opinion on everything and a smile that could light up the room. The family requests that donations in her memory be made to The Arboretum at Flagstaff, an organization that she loved and a place that soothed her spirit. A celebration of Life honoring Karen is planned for Saturday, February 27th at 11:00am at Living Christ Lutheran Church, 6401 N. Hwy 89, Flagstaff, AZ. |
