Urias Thompson Jr. 1947 - 2016

Urias Thompson Jr. 69, was born February 9, 1947 in the small town of Hazard, Kentucky to Urias Thompson and Velma "Zelda" McDaniel. Urias or known to his friends and family as 'Jr' was child # 10 out of 12.

Jr. loved to travel; his preferred method in his younger years was hitchhiking. Oh how his eyes would glimmer with excitement as he told stories of his state jumping with only a bag and his handy thumb.

In 1981 that all changed when he met Mildred Bennet and instantly fell head over heels for her. They dated briefly before marrying in 1983.

Jr. had a love for everything, and everyone. His heart was of gold always helping out those in need, or finding something to do for the family and friends just so he could keep in contact. Many knew him as "Mr. Fix It" nothing was trash everything had a purpose even if us kids thought differently.

Jr's last 24 hours were surrounded by so much love it was breathtaking. He passed at home on Wednesday February 24, 2016 at 4:26 am.

Jr. is survived by his children Eddie Bennet, Katie Hodgson, Brenda Sander, and Lorie Socash, his brothers Charles Gray, Carlo Thompson, sister Maudie Lane, 15 nieces and nephews, over 23 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

A public celebration of life will be held at Riverfront Park Sunday March 13, 2016 at noon.
