Deon “Bud” Hawkins went to be with the Lord unexpectedly on a beautiful Easter morning along with his buddy, Michael Wilson, on March 27, 2016.

Deon was born July 16, 1990, to Leon Hawkins Sr. and Christine A. Hawkins.

Bud grew up in Whiteriver until he graduated and went on and enjoyed doing what he loved to do best — bull-riding. He won buckles, chaps, trophies, jackets and a saddle.

After a while he went on to ITT Tech in Mesa and decided that he would rather be near the love of his life, Tashayla (T-Shay) Moses, and started work at POP. There he was a ranch cowboy, that of which he loved so much. He wanted to come back onto his bull-riding career. He did ride that Easter weekend, and that was his last ride.

That Easter Day the Lord Jesus took him home, the day he was celebrating Christ’s having risen on the third day. He loved his Lord and Savior so much that up in heaven, somewhere, he’s God’s right-hand ranch man now.

“We’ll miss you, Bud, very much, but we’ll meet you and Michael some sweet day at heaven’s gate. We love you forever and ever!”

Deon is survived by his father, Leon Hawkins Sr.; mother Christine Altaha Hawkins; the love of his life Tashayla (T-Shay) Moses; brothers Gerald Kessay Jr., Leon Hawkins Jr. and Tyler Hawkins; sisters Kuersha L. Cheney, Sylvia S. Kessay, Laonna Hawkins, Leonda Hawkins, Leonicia L. Hawkins, Martina Hawkins, Shandell Brownfeather, LeChelle Hawkins, Lakisha Hawkins and Kyri Hawkins; as well as many aunties, uncles and cousins.

Deon was preceded in death by Michael Wilson; grandfathers Christian Altaha Sr. and Leroy Hawkins; grandmothers Sippi Nastivar Havvy and Beulah Hawkins; sister Leanne Hawkins; brother Elijo Altaha Clawson; uncles Duane Altaha and Reese Peaches Jr.; aunties Carol Cosay, Valencia Hawkins and Patricia Gordon; and his favorite “son” (cat), Blue Hawkins.

A wake will be held at 10 a.m. Friday April 8, at 1009 S. Dark Shadows Drive, House No. 4, in Whiteriver. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at the Seven Mile Miracle Church in Whiteriver.

Silver Creek Mortuary handled arrangements.

My Big Brother and Me

By Laonna Hawkins

My brother and I always have fun, whether it’s rainy, windy or in the sun. I know that when we’re together, that we’ll always have each other. We argue, we yell, we fight; but we forgive and make it right. Usually we laugh, I know that because he’s my other half. When it’s rodeo time, I know that it’s his time to shine, he’s getting ready to ride, I always wish that I could be by his side.

Whether he wins or loses, He’ll tip his hat off to the bulls, but he’s still a winner to me; How I wish he could see. When he’s in trouble, I always put myself beside him to make it double; Or when he doesn’t know where to go, He asks for my help so I never say no. My brother is my hero, he is always there for me. On my scale he’ll never make zero; And for me he’ll always be.
