| David’s Desert Chapel Funeral Home, Wickenburg, Arizona John Henry Morrison, 73, passed away in Prescott, Arizona on April 10, 2016. John was born on April 21, 1942 in Santa Barbara, California. He was the only child of Hobert Henry Morrison of South Carolina and Evelyn Fae Madsen of California. During his early childhood John was raised by his mother and grandmother Clara Evelyn Madsen, and later by his mother and husband John Dillon. John graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 1960 then moved to Santa Monica and achieved his private pilot’s license. In less than two years he also had earned his commercial and flight instructor licenses and was chief pilot at Santa Monica Flyers, a flight school where he led instruction. On January 11, 1964 John married Vivian Darlene Cox of Lacygne, Kansas, in Las Vegas. He was hired by Continental Airlines in March of 1965 and was a captain by the age of 26. John and Darlene lived in Thousand Oaks, California where they started a family, then moved to Lake Tahoe, Nevada in 1976. John spent 18 years flying around the world for Continental. One of his favorite, most repeated routes was from Hawaii to Australia and New Zealand. John was a fun-loving husband and father, enjoying boating and tennis, but especially building relationships with family and friends. Always willing to help a friend in need, John was known to be kind, patient and generous. Family and friends also recognize he was assertive, steadfast and incredibly intelligent. In 1983 John retired from Continental Airlines and later entered the business of charter flying. During his career in aviation John was certified on many aircraft including 707, 727, 747, DC10, Gulfstream and Lear jets and was a sought-after trainer and instructor. When he retired from flying in 2010 and moved to Prescott, Arizona, John had accumulated approximately 27,000 hours of flight time. John is survived by his mother, Fae Dillon, wife Darlene Morrison, three children Craig Morrison, Crystal Thompson and Grant Morrison and 10 grandchildren. |
