William P. Gilpin

William (Bill) Paul Gilpin, 32, a resident of Paulden all his lifetime was born Jan. 18, 1945 in Flagstaff.

He was a mechanic for the Arizona Highway - Department for the past 10 years here.

He attended the school for the deaf in Pasadena, Calif. and public schools in Chino Valley and Phoenix. After graduating from Chino Valley Elementary School, he attended a vocational school in Phoenix and had the distinction of being the first deaf student to graduate from Transmatic School as an automobile mechanic, thereby opening a new field for the deaf.

He had been deaf since birth but learned to communicate orally and lip read and made a place for himself in the world of hearing. He was an elder and a member of the Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chino Valley.

Survivors include his widow, Linda of Paulden; a daughter, Shawna Lee and son, William Paul at home; parents. L. B. and Ruth Gilpen of Paulden; sisters, Pat Hignite of Chino Valley; Mary Hill of Paulden and Barbara Masxcarelli of Phoenix.

Funeral services will be held at the Mormon church in Chino Valley at 10 a.m. Wednesday with burial to follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

He will lie in state at the LDS Church in the Relief Society Room from 9 to 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to the Memorial Fund for Bill Gilpin for the LDS Building Fund at Chino Valley.

Memory Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
