| The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, April 20, 2016 Matthew “Matty” Justin Daly, 40, of Prescott, Arizona since 1992, transitioned from this life to the next on April 6, 2016 surrounded by close friends and family at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, after a sudden heart infection and ensuing complications. Matt was born in San Antonio, Texas on Oct. 27, 1976 and was a student at Prescott High School until 1994. An accomplished chef, he worked in several of Prescott’s top restaurants throughout the years. He was currently employed at Murphy’s Restaurant, located in downtown Prescott. Matthew was predeceased by his mother, Cynthia Stay Daly. He is survived by his father, David Matthew Daly; and stepmother, Patricia Palmer (Lexington, South Carolina); his brother, Andrew David Daly, and sister-in-law, Kelly Daly (Athens, Georgia); his half-sister, Larisa Daly (Blythewood, South Carolina); and half-brother, Capt. Brendan Daly, USAF/Germany. Matthew is also survived by his beloved “phamily” and friends, who span many states and countries. Special thanks go to the loving friends who arrived immediately upon hearing of his illness and stayed by his side right to the very end. Matt’s favorite pastimes included anything that took him into the heart of nature, traveling to ancient places, fishing, dancing, and touring to listen to his favorite bands, including ‘String Cheese Incident’ and ‘Railroad Earth.’ Matthew Justin Daly was a rare soul in this world who spread smiles, happiness, and laughter wherever he went. His greatest happiness was bringing joy to others, and he did that daily. He will be greatly missed. “Fly on; fly straight on ’til morning. These eyes will see you always.” A memorial and ceremony to spread his ashes are being planned.
