| The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, May 1, 2016, page 7a My mother, Sarah Madeline Schlappy, was born on Aug. 30, 1926 on a farm in Lincoln County, Kansas to Thomas and Mabel (Holmes) Gleeson. She passed away on April 20, 2016, in Prescott, Arizona. Growing up on the farm, she developed a great love of animals and horseback riding. She loved to tell people that she truly was a tomboy. As an adult, she was most proud of her long medical career, starting as a nursing aide to Dr. Herbert Songer and then as an aide and radiology technician at the Lincoln County Hospital, retiring in 1979. She will be missed by her many friends who loved her and her wonderful stories about growing up in Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Schlappy; her mother and father; brothers Robert and Harold Gleeson; sisters Faye Gleeson and Betty (Gleeson) Clark. She is survived by her only son, Larry Schlappy (Catherine) of Prescott; two grandsons, David Schlappy (Camille) and Daniel Schlappy (Rita); one granddaughter Kimberly McPherson; two great grandsons, Johnathan Schlappy and Tanner Carey; three great granddaughters, Celine Schlappy, Tariel McPherson and Teagan McPherson. Mom is also survived by many cousins; nephews; and nieces, some of whom I will mention because of the great love they shared for one another, Joann and Mel Kahn, Robert and Terri Gleeson, June and Fred Stringer and Tracy and Laura Clark. We would like to express our appreciation to Granite Mountain Home Care and Hospice for the wonderful care given while Mom was at home, The Marley House for their great care during her final days and Alliance Home Care for their prompt deliveries of home care equipment. A graveside service will take place at a future date in Lincoln, Kansas. In lieu of cards or flowers, mom would have requested donations to the Humane Society and/or the Wounded Warriors Project. Hampton Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements. Information provided by survivors. |
