| The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, May 8, 2016, page 7a Betty Jo passed quietly passed away to be with our Lord May 4, 2016. Betty Jo is survived by her husband of 43 years Ken Chance; sister Bonnie Buhler; sister-in-law Jo Ann Farney; Paul Fine; brother-in-law Marion Chance; sister-in-law Diane Chance; brother-in-law Tony Nelson; sister-in-law Abbie Nelson; sister-in-law Martha Steward; brother-in-law Don Steward; five children, son Walter Nelson; daughter-in-law Terri Nelson; daughter Kay Frische; son-in-law Eric Frische; daughter Debbie Harper; son-in-law Chuck Harper; son Sam Nelson, Marshell; son Joe Nelson; daughter-in-law Teresa Nelson; stepchildren Kevin Chance and Vicky Sweeny; eight grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. Betty Jo was preceded in death by her parents Alexander and Caroline Whipple; first husband John David Nelson; grandson Waylon Perry Harper; sisters, Thelma Gubler and Lois Barber. Betty Jo was born Sept. 3, 1934 in St. George, Utah. She was raised on a farm in St. George, later moving to Pioche, Nevada where her father went into mining and Betty Jo went to high school. She married Dave Nelson and raised five children in Washington State, Crown King, Arizona and Prescott, Arizona, before moving to Phoenix and marrying Ken Chance. She worked hard and was well respected in the clothing manufacturing industry where she held management positions, and also properly managed five children. She was an exceptional seamstress. She loved to play golf and spent many hours with Ken, her children and friends enjoying time spent together on the links. Ken and Betty Jo started and hosted the CHN Golf Tournament over 30 years. Private memorial to take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Huger Mercy Center, 2345 W. Orangewood, Phoenix, AZ 85021, in memory of Betty Jo Chance.
