| The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, May 8, 2016, page 7a Marjorie “Marge” Elizabeth Parrott Tucker The Lord gathered Marge’s soul for spring roundup on April 29, 2016. Born on May 5, 1921 in Portchester, New York, to parents Frederick J. Parrott and Miriam (Young) Parrot, Marge moved with her family to Prescott at the age of 13. She graduated from Prescott High School in 1938. Shortly thereafter, Marge met her true cowboy and husband-to-be, Bud Tucker. They married Nov. 9, 1941. Marge was a horse enthusiast since childhood and was thrilled to marry a real cowboy. Marge and Bud enjoyed the great life of ranching throughout their life together, raising two boys, Tom and Jerry. Prescott was their home until 1960 when they purchased a ranch in Southern Oregon. In 1966, they moved to Wickenburg, Arizona where they managed a small ranch and trained horses until 1976, when they returned to Oregon for the remainder of Bud Tucker’s life. One thing always remained in the forefront of Marge’s mind and that was a horse. She rode a million miles around Arizona helping on round-ups and various gatherings until she was 84 when she finally hung up her spurs. She spent her remaining years with her cowboy poetry receiving the coveted Gail Gardner Award for Cowboy Poetry in 2007. She will be remembered for her realism and poignant insight into the life of a cowwoman and her commitment to the ranch life and her love of livestock. Marge rode through life with a positive outlook on life and lamented the changing environment for the ranching cowboy life. She worked on historical publications such as Echos of the Past, Vol. 1 and 2, the Arizona National Pioneer Stockmen and Ranch Histories and was a member of the Yavapai Cowbells since its inception in 1949. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Chino Valley, Arizona where she taught bible studies and sang in the choir. Marge is survived by her two sons, Jerry of Pagosa Springs, Colorado and Tom of Scottsdale, Arizona; grandchildren, Tricia Arter of Galt, California, Laurel Cook of Prescott, Arizona, Julie Ray of Idaho; great grandchildren Lain and Morgan Cook, Alicia and Ashley Carter, Maile Arter and Tayler Ray; and great-great grandson, Layne Trecker. The Celebration of Life will be at 11 a.m. on June 11, 2016 at First Baptist Church, 1524 N. Highway 89, Chino Valley, Arizona. Happy Trails, Marge. Information provided by survivors. |
