Roger A. Peña Jr. passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 6, 2016.

A native son of Arizona, Roger was born in St. Johns and raised in Flagstaff, Arizona. Roger graduated from Flagstaff High School then attended NAU before joining the USMC.

Roger proudly served in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Shortly after serving in the USMC he returned to his home town of Flagstaff, Arizona, and met his wife Colleen Scanlan and they were married in 1968. Roger and Colleen started their family with their son, Paul in Flagstaff and then moved to Phoenix for a brief time where twins, Amy and Bridget, were born. Roger moved his family shortly thereafter to Kingman, Arizona, and worked at Ford Proving Ground where he finally retired. An avid car enthusiast, working for Ford was one of Roger’s greatest joys. After retiring from Ford, Roger and Colleen made Prescott, Arizona, their home.

In addition to being an avid car enthusiast, Roger enjoyed being outside, where he could be found fishing, hunting, gardening or riding his bike. Saturdays in the fall, he could be found rooting on his favorite college football team, Notre Dame. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and could often be found teaching them to fish, ride a bike or just sit and watch the birds in the back yard. Roger was actively involved in the Prescott Sunrise Lions Club where he was a Melvin Jones Fellow.

Preceded in death by his loving parents, Roger Peña, Ruth Morfin Peña, and brother Michael Anthony, Roger is survived by his spouse Colleen; children Paul Peña (Audrey) of Oceanside, California, Bridget Hunt (John) of Prescott, Arizona, Amy Peña of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Yale, Hayden, John Ivan, Jolee and Jena; and sisters Ramona Peña Barreras, Bernice Peña Anaya, Stella Peña Sandoval and Auroa Peña Uhalde (Charles).

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic church, 150 Fleury St., Prescott.

Hampton Funeral Home assisted the family.
