| Camp Verde Bugle, Cottonwood, Arizona Thursday, May 19, 2016 Karen Glover Hayhurst 1946-2016 Karen Glover Hayhurst, 69, died May 16, 2016 from acute respiratory failure. She is preceded in death by her father, George Richard Glover and her sister, Grace Glover Terry. She is survived by her mother Margie Glover, her brother George Richard Glover Jr. and sister-in-law Kathi Glover; two children, Gina Aker, Wiley "Howdy" Aker, and daughter in law Virginia Aker, and two step children, Scott Hayhurst and Christina Hayhurst, and seven grandchildren: Wiley "Ricky" Aker, Ivan Aker, Cheyenne Taylor, Tristan Aker, Ryan Hayhurst, Bryce Taylor and Roman Taylor, and nieces and nephews. Karen was born in Cortez, Colorado on December 31, 1946 and moved to Prescott at the age of 6. As a teenager, she worked at the Prescott Elks and Studio Theaters and upon graduation from Prescott High School started cosmetology school in 1964. After graduation, she worked in salons in Prescott and Phoenix finally settling in Camp Verde in 1969. During her 32 years in Camp Verde she opened three hair salons and employed over 80 beauty professionals. In the early 1970's, revolutionary for the time, she opened one of the first salons in the state of Arizona to serve both women and men. When she retired in 2002 her salon "Simplicity" had a client base of over 3000 people in a town of 12,000 people. She worked closely with the American Cancer Society donating, maintaining, and styling wigs for chemotherapy patients, as part of a program, called "Look Good, Feel Better"." She raised her first set of children, Gina and Howdy, in Camp Verde as a single mother, and was an active part of the community as a 4-H Leader, Booster Club member, Verde Valley Softball teams, Chamber of Commerce member and the Vice President of the Verde Valley Cosmetologist Association. She moved back to Prescott in 1988 to be with her husband, to help raise her two step-children, Christina and Scott, and continued to commute to Camp Verde five-days a week for the next 13 years to run her salon. After retiring, she built a second home outside of Cruzville, New Mexico; where she enjoyed gardening and watching the grandkids play in the Tularosa River that ran through the property. She also traveled extensively, RVing through the United States, Canada, and sailing to New Zealand, Australia, the Caribbean, Central and South America. The funeral will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Open Door Baptist Church, located at 8451 E. Stevens Drive in Prescott Valley. A lunch reception will follow.
