| The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, May 29, 2016 William Elbert Townsend, 76, of Prescott, Arizona, passed away unexpectedly in his home the morning of Thursday, May 26, 2016. He was born March 3, 1940, in Flagstaff, Arizona, to Alice Olive Koch and Homer Elbert Townsend. He moved, with his mother to Prescott when he was 3. He graduated from Prescott High School in 1958 and later attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland and then the University of Arizona. He married Linda Faye Brand on Sept. 3, 1961. He worked for the Santa Fe and Topeka Railroad before beginning work with the U.S. Forest Service, where he worked for 42 years. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with his wife in 1969. He served in multiple leadership positions in the church. He enjoyed hot-rods in his younger life, genealogical research, guitar music, jogging, soccer and most of all, his family. He is preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Ann and Ruth. He is survived by Linda, his wife of 54 years; his sister Katie; his children, Thomas (Jeanna), Jennifer, Benjamin (Missy), Tiffany, Meisha Cleland (Chad), Piper Anderson (Jay); and 13 grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at the LDS Church building, 1101 Sandretto Drive, Prescott.
