| The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Friday, June 3, 2016, page 9a Mrs. Florence Justin Gale, age 94, passed away on May 31, 2016 at her home in Highgate Assisted Living, Prescott, Arizona. She was born Oct. 16, 1921, to Miner M. Justin and Jessie (Harrington) Justin in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from West Lafayette High School in West Lafayette, Indiana and then from Purdue University with a BS in Chemistry. While at Purdue, she met her future husband, George Gale. They married on March 27, 1943 in Lafayette, Indiana and later had two children, Deborah and Geoffrey. She worked for a short time as a research librarian for Monsanto. When George was in the service during World War II, they were stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where their daughter, Debby, was born. After the war, the family moved to Pontiac, Michigan, where son Geoff was born. Eventually the family moved to Birmingham, Michigan. After several years as a stay-at-home mother, scout leader and volunteer school librarian, Florence returned to school, earning an MS in Library Service degree from the University of Michigan. She then worked for Baldwin Public Library as a children’s librarian for 20 years before retiring. After retiring, she and George moved to Prescott, Arizona. She enjoyed an active retirement, participating in the Newcomers Club, the Archeology Club, the Hiking Club, Trinity Presbyterian Church, geology classes at Yavapai College and extensive traveling with George. Florence was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George; her brother Frank Justin; her sister Dorothea Taylor; her niece Lucinda Taylor; and her son-in-law Jon L. Saxton. She is survived by her children, Debby (Gale) Sazton and Geoffrey Gale; four grandchildren, Summer Tucker, Amber Gale, Brett Saxton and Morgan Saxton; and two great grandchildren, Spencer Bowman and Brayden Saxton. Cremation has taken place and burial will follow at a later date in Birmingham, Michigan. Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home assisted the family. Information provided by survivors. |
