Gilbert Bonito Sr., better known to his friends as “Stinker,” was born Aug. 30, 1957, in McNary to Melissa Bonito and the late Randall Bonito Sr. He was suddenly and quickly taken to his heavenly home Sunday May 29, 2016, in Gilbert.

Gilbert was lifelong resident of the White Mountains. During his younger years, his family resided in McNary, then moved to Whiteriver, where he made his home until he was called home to fulfill our Lord’s eternal plan.

He was a hardworking, kind-hearted, humble individual who loved anyone and everyone he came to know. He especially loved his grandkids, but his love did not stop there because he loved his family, and he showed it, and his love was felt by all.

Some of his hobbies included working in his garden, where he planted and grew his own vegetables; cooking and baking his delicious homemade pies, banana bread and cookies. He was also an avid fisherman and outdoorsman.

He was employed at Sunrise Ski Resort for 26 years.

Gilbert is survived by his wife, Priscilla Bonito; daughter Verna Bonito; sons Gilbert Bonito Jr. and Randy Bonito; stepdaughters Tanya Benally and Kimberly Gatewood; stepsons Estiven Quintana and Christopher Reed; grandchildren Emilio Massey, DeAndra Cromwell, Deliece Bonito, Wesley Bonito, Jaiden Bonito, Marlee Bonito, Ryan Bonito and Mirandy Bonito; mother Melissa Bonito; brothers Marcus Bonito (Vonda), Ronald Bonito (Charlie), Leon Bonito Sr. (Iva), Chester Bonito, Eddie Bonito and Lane Tonay; godchildren Autumn Hope Bonito and Seth Tessay; plus numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his father, Randall Bonito; brothers Hilbert, Gerald and Randall Jr.; sister Vicky Bonito; nephews Lonnie and Myron Bonito; and niece Angela Bonito.

A wake was held Saturday, June 4, in Rainbow City. Funeral services were held Monday, June 6, at the North Fork Miracle Church in Whiteriver. Interment was at the Whiteriver Cemetery.

Silver Creek Mortuary handled arrangements.
