| The Eastern Arizona Courier, Safford, Arizona James Talley Brinkerhoff, or "Jim" as everyone knew him, passed away Oct. 8 in Snowflake at the age of 60, with his supportive family at his side. Jim was born Oct. 19, 1947, the youngest of four children to Spencer and Ruth Brinkerhoff. He loved the Gila Valley, being born, raised and spending much of his adult life here. He went to Safford schools and played football at Safford High School before graduating in 1965. He also went to Eastern Arizona College and the University of Arizona for a time. He met his wife, Edith Jeanette Parker, on June 10, 1966, on a blind date, and from then on, they remained together. They were married in the Mesa LDS Temple on June 5, 1968, and were married for just over 40 years. After getting married, they remained in the Phoenix area, where he worked for Superlite Block, then with a partner started Arcadia Fence Company before returning to the Gila Valley to join in his father's business, Brinkerhoff Realty and Insurance. From there, he started Brinkerhoff Construction and became a prominent home builder, building many beautiful custom homes here in the Gila Valley. He loved to serve others. One of his favorite ways to serve others was cooking. With his large portable kitchen/trailer he provided meals for many church and community events in Safford. He was a great father for his six children, going to every event they participated in. From sporting events to choir concerts to violin recitals, traveling from Flagstaff to Douglas, he made sure he was always there and supportive. His hobbies included scuba diving, collecting antique trade beads, vacationing to San Diego with family and friends, Mountain Man Rendezvous, and being of service to church and Boy Scout programs. He was preceded in death by his firstborn, James Talley Jr.; his sister, Ann; and his mother and father, Ruth and Spencer. He is survived by his wife, Edith; and his six remaining children: Stacia (Eric) Ciminiski, Fletcher (Becca) Brinkerhoff, Arabeth (Jeremy) Brimhall, Taz (Halie) Brinkerhoff, Paisley (Chris) Scott and Jorisen (Kayle) Brinker-hoff; along with his eight grandchildren: Noah, Heber, Braelyn, Talley, Tatum, Alyssa, Alicia and Justin; and his brother and sister, Spencer Jr. (Alice) Brinkerhoff and Jenna (John) Mosley. He knew and happily served many in the Gila Valley and will be greatly missed. Services will be held in his honor with a viewing Sunday, Oct. 12, 6-8 p.m., at McDougal's Caldwell Funeral Chapel and a funeral to be held Monday, Oct. 13, 11 a.m., at the Safford LDS Stake Center.
