“When I am gone, release me, let me go - I have so many things to see and do. Do not tie yourself to me with tears, be thankful for our many beautiful years.”

Eugene James Kaiser died Friday, May 27, 2016, at home in Prescott. The youngest of three sons, he was born in Tabor, South Dakota, on March 6, 1937, to William and Tillie Kaiser (nee Sedlacek).

In 1945, the family moved to the big city of Yankton, South Dakota. Indoor plumbing was a benefit in their new home.

Gene served four years in the U.S. Navy before beginning what was to become a 29-year career with the El Segundo (California) Police Department. While working, he also earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Long Beach State University. He and his wife Sharon moved to Prescott, Arizona, in 1992.

In Prescott, he was a 15-year volunteer with the Prescott Forest Service and enjoyed riding his ATV in the 4th of July parade with the Prescott Open Trails group.

In addition to his beloved wife, he loved living in Prescott, his home and his three children, Michael, Craig and Lori of El Segundo.

Throughout his life, he found comfort in his Catholic faith. Gene was a sweet, kind, oh-so-patient man who mentored many while providing an aura of stability and security for his loved ones. While experiencing many health challenges, he was forever positive, with a wonderful sense of humor and intellect.

He also leaves his remaining brother Mel and wife Mary Ann of New Brighton, Minnesota; sister-in-law also Mary Ann of Mankato, Minnesota; nieces and nephews; other family members; dear friends; and co-workers who called him “Geno.”

A memorial Mass will be scheduled for a later date. Those wishing to honor Gene’s memory may donate to the charity of choice or to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 Fleury St., Prescott, AZ 86301; with a memo line notation: For the School Garden Project.
