Bob Burns, 76, beloved father, friend, motor enthusiast, artist, and Prescott’s “The Sign Painter,” passed in the early morning of June 28. Born Nov. 2, 1939, in the Bronx, raised in Lyndhurst, New Jersey, Bob was a Prescott resident for over 40 years. In his early life he discovered and championed ’60s band, The Young Rascals, spent time in Germany with the armed forces, and collected rare cars and motorcycles such as Cords, Indians, BMWs and a Munch Mammoth.

He eventually befriended legendary pin-striper, Von Dutch, who taught him to stripe and letter and showed him a new way of life. Bob quit his job pushing tobacco, moved to Prescott, and opened up shop as The Sign Painter. His colorful lettered vans and cars as well as flying-eyeball emblazoned T-shirts and hats are still remembered and his signs can still be seen around town.

He is survived by his daughters, Kathleen Rubi of Phoenix and Alanna Burns of Prescott; son Eric Burns of Brooklyn; and grandchildren Ayden, Cheyenne and Mataya.

No services are planned; we appreciate your love and support.

Arrangements by Sunrise Funeral Home.
