| The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, July 17, 2016 Michael Wayne Barnes, of Prescott, died on July 9. He was born on October 18, 1955, in Cottonwood, to Val and Mildred Barnes. Mike is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jennifer; his daughter, Andrea and her husband, Nico; his grandson, Leo Michael; a new baby expected in December; his mother, Mildred; his sister, Valerie; and beloved friends of over 40 years, Frank and Annie LeClaire. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Val, and his brother, Steve. Mike graduated from Prescott High School in 1973 and attended Yavapai College. He spent many years working in construction, building hundreds of homes and commercial sites in the tri-city area. Mike also contributed to the building of the Community Nature Center and the Aztlan Lodge. In the early 2000s, Mike left construction and taught himself drafting, working for a drafting company in Prescott Valley. He eventually founded his own drafting business, which he ran successfully until his retirement in 2014. Mike was a man of many interests. At various times in his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, taking photographs, woodworking, oil painting, hiking, golfing, scuba diving, gardening, exploring new technology, and playing the guitar. He loved the ocean and enjoyed many summer vacations in the Caribbean and Mexico. Mike was the epitome of the strong, silent type. He was kind, generous, and always willing to help people. Mike was a wonderful father, husband, son, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, grandfather, and friend. Above all else, he loved his family and will be deeply missed. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. Donations to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (www.themmrf.org) would be greatly appreciated.
