Elizabeth Rae Owens Painter was born October 2, 1929 and passed away peacefully in her sleep, at her home in Spring Valley, Arizona on the morning of July 18, 2016 at the age of 86. Elizabeth was born to Walter McKinley “Mac” and Mary Viola Owens in Tempe, Arizona.

She attended Kyrene Elementary School and graduated from Tempe High School in 1947 where she was heavily involved with the Future Farmers of America. In 1950 Elizabeth married Hal Ernest Rutherford and together they raised 4 children; Douglas Ernest Rutherford, John Walter “Jay” Rutherford, Sheila Rae Rutherford and Hal McKinley “Mack” Rutherford.

Elizabeth spent many years as an escrow agent and loan specialist in the real estate business as well as serving as a Notary Public for the State of Arizona. She had very strong feelings for her many church friends at Spring Valley Community Church. Elizabeth loved gardening, ceramics, painting and all crafts and loved to cook and bake. But

when it came time to go out, it was always Oliva’s Mexican Food in Prescott Valley. (She was known to have a couple Margarita’s there as well)

Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents Mac and Viola; her 2 sisters Jane and Charlotte; her brother Jack; her 2 children Doug and Sheila; her 3 grand-children Easton, Nolan and CJ and her husband of 25 years, John L. Painter.

She is survived by 2 children, Jay and Mac; 2 step-children, Dwight and Barbara; 9 grand-children; 3 step-grand-children; 18 great-grand-children; 2 step-great-grand-children and her two dachshunds; Licorice and Lollipop.

Elizabeth will be missed by all and we thank her for providing us with such fond memories. She was a loving, caring person and wanted to make sure on her final day she could help just one more person. She asked that her body be delivered to Science

Care; with one last wish she may help someone else. She will be missed.

A “Celebration of Life” will be announced soon at Spring Valley Community Church in Spring Valley, Arizona.

Arrangements entrusted to Science Care.
