Sylvia Ireland

On Sunday, July 10, 2016, on a lonely walk at Huger Mercy Living Center, Sylvia Bailey Ireland passed away suddenly. Her intended destination was unknown, only to her and her God. Syl was suffering from the influence of Alzheimers dementia disease which she had suffered with since 2011. Surviving her is her husband, George, their romance lasting from January 31, 1975 until her death on July 10, 2016.

In addition, she left four children from a previous marriage: Jeannie Binette Scottsdale, Arizona; Billy Pierce, Chino Valley, Arizona; Nancy Vallely, Prescott Valley, Arizona; and Melissa Pruzina, Chino Valley, Arizona. She also had three step children from her current marriage: Amy Benge, Castle Rock, Colorado; Annette Hill, Cedar Hill, Texas and Nancy Spilsbury, Gilbert, Arizona. Sylvia also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her longstanding friend, Lydia Gasperak.

Sylvia was born on December 14, 1934 in Lambert, Mississippi. She and her family moved to Phoenix, Arizona in the 1950s due to the health of her children and ultimately moved to Prescott, Arizona where Sylvia worked as a legal secretary. Sylvia and George lived in Prescott for many years before moving to Phoenix, Arizona. She became a legal secretary and clerk for Judge Carl Muecke in the Federal Judiciary until her retirement on December 31, 1996.

Sylvia and George had a passion for traveling. Their adventures included wonderful places such as Greece, Japan, the Caribbean, Mexico and Europe. She also learned how to fly which led to exploring many exciting places.

Sylvia ultimately lived at Huger Mercy under the tender care of the staff and caregivers at Cottage D. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Huger Mercy Living Center, 2345 W. Orangewood Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona, 85021.

Arrangements were made by Smart Cremation. Services will be announced at a later date. “Good night, my darling, sleep well. See you in the morning. I love you”. George
