Manfred Emil Poppe, 78, passed away, surrounded by family on July 31, 2016, in Prescott, Arizona. Fred was born on May 1, 1938, in Marion, Wisconsin, to Walter and Dorothy Poppe. He was the second of three sons.

The family moved to Phoenix area in 1946 and Fred graduated from Tolleson Union High School in 1957. After high school, he worked for Blakely Service Stations and went on to work for Air Research/Garrett/ Allied Signal from which he retired in 1993, after 34 years of service.

Fred loved to coach girls softball and his teams always did very well. In 1995, he moved to Prescott, where he became a volunteer for the Yavapai Regional Medical Center for over 20 years. He enjoyed camping, sports and being an active member in the community.

He founded a cribbage club, was a member of the Lions Club, participated in the Prescott Coach and Camper Club and enjoyed helping people any way he could.

Preceded in death by his parents and brother David. He is survived by his daughter, Misty; grandson, Emilio; and his brother, Donald.; niece Cheryl; and nephews Mike, Kenny and Rodney. He also has many great and great, great nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, at the Adult Center of Prescott, located at 1280 Rosser St., Prescott, AZ 86301.

In lieu of flowers or plants, contributions can be made in Manfred’s memory to Prescott Evening Lions Foundation for the Yavapai College Fund. Also, the Yavapai Humane Society
