| The Camp Verde Bugle, Cottonwood, Arizona Tuesday, August 23, 2016 Kathryn Elaine Farrington, age 89, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2016, just weeks before her 90th birthday. "Kay," as she preferred to be called, was born in Portsmouth, NH, on Sept 4, 1926. Her parents were Thomas and Madelaine Pendergast. In 1946, she met and married her loving husband Richard, a young Naval Aviator, and together they had a wonderful exciting and adventurous life in the military, living in exotic places around the world including Hawaii in the 50's before it became a state, followed by Morocco, Sicily and Naples, Italy. Kay loved the Navy life of travel and always looked forward to the next adventure. In 1971, when Richard retired from the Navy after 30 years of service, they moved to Key West, Florida and opened an art gallery, frame shop and art supply business called Farrington Galleries. Joined by their two daughters and sons-in-law the gallery was a wonderful family business for many years. In 1985, Kay and Richard decided to retire for good and moved north to Rotonda West, near Englewood FL where they lived for 15 years. In 2000 after many trips out west in their RV they decided to move permanently to Cottonwood AZ which they had visited many times. They loved their life in the Verde Valley as a home base and went RVing as often as they could. Kay and Richard especially loved to go to the casinos in Laughlin and made a regular pilgrimage as they said, "to visit their money". Kay was a wonderful cook and hostess and loved to learn exotic dishes from wherever they were living. She loved entertaining which had been a way of life in the Navy and she continued on her entire life. In 2013, after 67 years of marriage, Kay was preceded in death by her husband Richard and she missed him terribly. But now they are finally together again. Kay is survived by her daughter Karen F Daniels and Kristina S Greene, both of whom live in Clarkdale, AZ. Kay is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Kimberly, Kristen, Luke, Kristopher, and Karl and 7 great-grandchildren. As per family wishes, no funeral or church services will be held, but the family will celebrate Kay's life in a private gathering and will raise a toast to her for her newest adventure.
