Mrs. Ben Powers Taken By Death

Mrs. Jessie Durbin Powers, 69, widow of the late Benjamin Powers, died at 9 o'clock yesterday morning in a Phoenix hospital, following a long illness.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Ruffner Funeral Home with the Very Rev. Robert J. Donahoe, of St. Agnes Parrish in Phoenix, officiating. Interment will be in the family plot in Mountain View cemetery by the side of her husband, who died Oct. 11, 1950.

Mrs. Powers, who was born in Prescott on Nov. 15, 1881, had lived here all of her life. She was graduate4d from the Prescott high school as the valedictorian of her class and later taught for two years in Thompson Valley. She was married to Mr. Powers at the age of 20 years. The family home at the time of her death was at 120 North Summit street.

She made a wide circle of friends and was active in civic affairs as a member of the Monday club, Elks Ladies and the Red Cross. She took a great interest in children, particularly those with whom her husband had contact through his office as probation officer.

Mrs. Powers is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Fred (Aileen Agnes) Tracy, of Phoenix, and Mrs. Joseph (Ruth Frances) Lessard, of Prescott. There are three grandchildren: Patricia Jane Tracy, of Phoenix; Dennis Joseph and Robert Michael Lessard, of Prescott. Also surviving are four sisters: Mrs. W. E. Scott, of Prescott, Mrs. Ben Stewart, of Mayer, Mrs. Florence Kennedy, of Santa Monica, and Mrs. Iva Ranney, of Monmouth, Ill.
