| The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 09/09/2016 Etheline “Mae” Kinney’s sunrise began Jan. 4, 1948, in McNary and her sunset was Aug. 29, 2016, in Chandler, leaving unexpectedly, surrounded by her loved ones. “Today we begin our journey without our wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, knowing that the hardest part wasn’t losing Mae but learning to live without her, yet she will forever be in our hearts and memory.” Mae was a lifelong resident of Arizona but lived in numerous towns and cities. Born and raised in McNary, she married the love of her life, Gregory Kinney Sr., at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in McNary. Mae took pride in taking care of her husband and raising her three children. She loved cooking and baking just to see the smiles it put on the faces of family and friends. Mae had such natural talents with numerous arts and crafts, which she generously shared and passed on. Mae is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Gregory Kinney Sr.; daughter Sheila (Reynold) Ramirez; sons Gregory (Lillian) Kinney Jr. and Dominic Kinney; brothers Rudy Ethelbah and Larry Crosthwait; sisters Rena Billy and Cory; grandchildren Fabian Ramirez, Antonio Ramirez, Meribel Kinney, Payton Kinney, Dominique (Dayna) Kinney, Mico Kinney, Tessa Kinney, Sheridan Kinney, Skyler Prins and Shade Prins; great-grandchildren Azalea Kinney, Kendyl Walker, Nova Walker, Tanner Lupe-Kinney and Irie Prins; niece Valariel Anthony Williams; nephew Anthony Ethelbah; and many cousins, relatives and friends. Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Goodman and Freda Josay Ethelbah; grandmother Fanny Free; grandfather Carter Free; great-grandfather Apache Scout Micky Free; grandchildren Gregorio Kinney and Allen Kinney; brother Billy “Chief” Ethelbah; sisters Vina Cassadore and June Riley; sister-cousin Christine Burnette; aunts Mabel Josay and Pauline Burnette; and uncle Jackie Josay. On Sept. 10, with a mother (Freda) and daughter (Mae) having a bond so strong in life as in death, she will be brought home at 7 a.m. for a two-hour wake at her brother’s home in Rainbow City. A rosary will be held at 9 a.m. On the same day, a funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. in McNary at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Mae will be laid to rest on the same day and right beside her mother at Whiteriver Cemetery. Silver Creek Mortuary handled arrangements.
