Timothy Ray Goodwin, 73, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 24, 2016 in Gilbert, Arizona.

He leaves his mother, Marie Peart; sister Jan Holmquist; daughter-in-law Katie Goodwin; former spouse and mother of his son, Ronda Haprov. Tim was preceded in death by his son Jesse, 43, who passed away in May 2016.

Born in Dayton, Ohio and raised in California, Tim attended community college before opening and operating Goodwin Automotive in Costa Mesa, California. He was soon drafted into the Army and when his military commitment concluded, Tim returned to his automotive business only to find himself drawn to further serving his community. He became interested in public service and was a reserve officer in the Costa Mesa Police Department from 1975 to 1980.

In July 1980, Tim moved his family to Arizona where he joined the

Arizona Department of Public Safety. He spent the majority of his later years in Prescott, Arizona, where he retired as a Sergeant with the Department of Public Safety in September 2003.

Tim was one of the most well respected individuals in the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Amongst his friends, family, and anyone else who worked with him, Tim was known for his giving nature and great sense of humor. His passion for anything with an engine was shared with his beloved son Jesse, and they spent countless hours together surrounded by cars and planes. Wherever Tim was, his canine companion could always be found.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, November 7 at the Sonoran Skies Mortuary, 5650 East Main Street, Mesa, AZ, 85205.
