| Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ >>> Published on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 <<< >>> (a personalized obituary article) <<< George Eugene Brister, 72, of Lake Havasu, AZ passed away at his home on Monday, August 1, 2016. George was born in Vallejo, CA on September 17, 1943. He formerly lived in Napa, CA. George was the eldest son of Ellwyn and Doris Brister. George attended Richmond High School. After high school he joined the Coast Guard and married Melody Taylor. They had two children. A son, Steven Brister in 1961 and a daughter, Gaylene Brister in 1964. George would later go to work for Safeway Warehouse in Richmond Ca in 1965. George met his second wife Bonnie Craft in 1968 and they married in December 1968, and were married for 17 years. Together they would have two children. A son, Brett Brister in 1970 and a daughter, Dayna Brister Sandberg in 1972. In 1968, George went to work as a firefighter for the Kensington Fire Department in Kensington, CA, which is located in the Bay Area. Before going to work for the Kensington Fire Department he was a volunteer firefighter for the Pinole Valley Fire Department. His love of being a firefighter would continue for longer than 30 years until his retirement in 1998. In 1986, George would marry his third wife, Donna Stout. On his days off from being a firefighter George enjoyed playing soccer and was on many soccer league's and he also enjoyed coaching his son Brett's baseball team. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. His love of the outdoors carried over into many activities. He loved to garden, paint, build decks and landscape. George also liked to spend time with his children playing games, fishing, rafting, tubing, boating, wter skiinh, golfing and traveling in his RV. George was also a member of the Napa Elks Lodge, in Napa, CA, and the Lake Havasu, AZ, Elks Lodge #2399. George is survived by his daughter, Gaylene Brister of Vacaville, CA; daughter Dayna Brister Sanberg of Grants Pass, OR; two brothers, Robert Brister of Alta, CA and Larry Brister of Granite Falls, WA; four grandchildren, Tara Brister of Vacaville, CA, Lisa Brister of Vacaville, CA, Mason Cody of Chico, CA and Zachary Parham of Grants Pass, OR; numerous great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Ellwyn Brister; his mother Doris Brister Hartwell; his step-father Dick Hartwell; his son Steven Brister who passed in 1981 and hsi son Brett Brister, who passed in 2008. "A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at the Pietros Restaurant at 679 Merchant St. in Vacaville, CA." |
