Jerry Vaughn Sanford, Sr.

Posted 2016-11-07 by mhenderson
Jerry Vaughn Sanford, Sr., 81, of Lake Havasu City passed away Sept.
25, 2016.

He was born to Ival and Lola (Burden) Sanford on Feb. 11, 1935 in
Tulsa, Okla.

Jerry was proud to have served his country during the Korean War in
the United States Navy. He went on to continue his service by
becoming a fireman and then later a police officer.

It was while he was a fireman that he met his forever love Carolyn
Peckham. They dated for about eight months and were married in
Newkirk, Okla. on Sept. 23, 1960. They shared 56 cherished years
together.

The couple moved to California where Jerry was a Los Angeles County
Deputy Sheriff and then a motorcycle patrol officer for the
California Highway Patrol. He was meant to be a policeman and loved
his job. He is a lifelong member of the Elks Club, the American
Legion and CAHP.

Fishing was one of Jerry’s favorite past times. He also enjoyed
golf, NASCAR, football and was a huge fan of the Wichita Shockers
basketball team. In his younger days, he liked to go off-roading,
riding dune buggies and motorcycles. His greatest passion, though,
was his family.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Ival and Lola Sanford,
sister Barbara Sanford and his beloved dog Sonny.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn Sanford, son Jerry Sanford Jr.,
daughters Vicki and Sharon Sanford, and his grandsons Michael and
Trevor Berry.

A memorial service is at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 30 at Calvary
Baptist Church on McCulloch Blvd.

Services were placed in the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.

Thoughts and condolences can be sent to Jerry’s family at www.lietz-
