| Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ >>> Published on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 <<< Gene Leroy Wheeler, 54, went to be with the Lord Sept. 22, 2016. He was born Sept. 11, 1962 in North Platte, Neb. to Lowell and Roxana Wheeler. Gene moved to Lake Havasu City in May and was previously a long-time resident of Glendale. He attended Pomona High School in Arvada, Colo. Following high school, he attended University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo, Colo., where he played running back and had a tryout with the Kansas City Chiefs. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1986 and then moved to Glendale, where he worked for PING Golf for more than 20 years. Gene held the title of Mr. Nebraska for two years. He enjoyed watching football, loved watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers and was a Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals fan. He had a very kind heart and quick wit and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Gene is survived by his children Mason and Grace Wheeler, ex-wife Anne Wheeler, father Lowell Wheeler, brothers Kim (Linda) Wheeler of Havasu, Shawn Wheeler of North Platte, Neb. and Daryn Wheeler of Wheatridge, Colo., nephew Nathan Wheeler, niece Brianna Jones and great-niece, Callie Jones. He was preceded in death by his mother Roxye Santorno, niece Callie Wheeler, nephew Zach Wheeler and his grandparents. A celebration of Gene’s life will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Havasu. Arrangements are under the care of Lake Havasu Mortuary & Crematory. |
