| Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ >>> Published on Thursday, November 10, 2016 <<< >>> June 4, 1921-Oct. 15, 2016 <<< Josephine Carmosino Walker was born in Boulder, Colo. to Donato and Alice Carmosin on, June 4, 1921. She attended the University of Colorado where she was a drum majorette and won the title Miss Boulder in 1941. Jo married Wayman E. Walker on Feb. 15, 1943. She was a wonderful mother who raised her sons Skip and Carl in Greeley, Colo. She taught music at Franklin and Jackson Elementary Schools in Greeley where she directed band, orchestra, chorus, and musical theater productions. At the University of Northern Colorado, Jo sponsored the Alpha Alpha chapter of Tau Beta Sigma, the national honorary band sorority and served as Tau Beta Sigma National President 1963-65. Upon retirement, Wayman and Jo moved to Lake Havasu City. Jo was active at Our Lady of the Lake Church directing children’s Christmas programs, provided hours of volunteer work and cooked innumerable spaghetti dinners. She was also active in the Arizona chapter of the American Association of University Women and enjoyed playing golf with her friends at the London Bridge Golf Club. Most recently, she lived with her son Carl, daughter-in-law Melissa and granddaughters Jianna and Avalon in Aurora, Colo.. There, Jo attended Denver Friends Church. Jesse, her grandson, resides in Minneapolis, Minn., raising Jo’s great-grandsons Jasper and Caius with his wife Amber. Josephine passed Oct. 15. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Lynda Kaye, her husband Wayman, and son Skip. Remembrances can be donated to the University of Northern Colorado Foundation directed to the Wayman and Jo Walker Scholarship Endowment. It provides scholarships for UNC music students.
