| Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ >>> Published on Saturday, November 26, 2016 <<< It is with great sadness that the family of Kathryn Jean Rovey announces her passing on Nov. 5, 2016 at Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Kathryn was 98 years old. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Jean McCullough, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents Theodore and Luella Packer, husband Carl Rovey, brother Maynard Packer and daughter Cheryl Rovey. Jean was born Aug. 7, 1918 in Eston, Saskatchewan. She was raised on a farm near Richlea, graduated from Eston High School in 1936 and attended Woodbury University in Los Angeles. There, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in interior design. Jean and Carl Rovey were married in 1940 and remained in Arizona on a dairy farm. In 1944, the couple was asked to help manage the family farm in Canada. In 1975, they began their retirement in Lake Havasu City. In 2013, Carl and Jean relocated to a retirement community in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Jean’s accomplishments included various memberships and presidential appointments in the United Church and Eston Music Festival. Jean worked with the Extension Division, University of Saskatchewan teaching fundamentals of interior design to students in adult education classes. Jean was chairman of the Women’s Liberal Association of Canada promoting women’s roles in political affairs. In Lake Havasu City, Jean held an Elder role in the Community Presbyterian Church, sang in the choir and served as president of the Presbyterian Women’s group. Jean was an active member of PEO, serving as president 2003-2005. The child enrichment program honored her by creating an annual scholarship in her name. A memorial tea to commemorate Jean and Carl is 2 p.m. Jan. 7 the Fellowship Hall at the Community Presbyterian Church in Lake Havasu City.
