| Prescott Evening Courier, Prescott, Arizona Territory October 18, 1902 This community was made very sad by the untimely death of Josephine Gaddis, as a result of typhoid fever on the 30th of September, 1902, at the residence of her parents on Middle Verde. he was 16 or 18 years old and was born and raised here in Verde Valley, and was one of Verde Valley's fairest daughters. She was good in every way, and in the better sense that the work implies. Her devotion to her aged parents was well nigh ideal. She was a member of the Methodist church. I believe her friends and acquaintances were exactly equal, she was a genuine friend of all she knew, and on account of her goodness she was liked by all who ever formed her acquaintance. I have known her since her birth. It is said none are perfect, to me she seemed to approach as near perfection as any girl I ever knew of her age. I certainly never knew one for whom I had greater respect. The sympathy of this entire community goes out towards her aged parents who have had to yield up so many of their children in youth and maturity. In offering this tribute of respect to this worthy young lady who has been called from among us, I pray the grace of He who holds the lives and destiny of us all in the hollow of His hands may comfort the aged parents and the brothers and sisters who heard the alarm at the inner door and answered this call by giving up one so near and dear to us all.
