Donald R. Sands

Donald R. Sands, 85, passed away March 3, 2016 with his loving wife,
Judy Sands, by his side.

Don was born in Oklahoma April 30, 1930. He moved to California as a
child with his mother, Opal Sands and father, Roy Sands, where they
settled in Los Angeles, Calif.

He attended USC after serving his country for three years.

A true patriot, Don served in Korea from 1950-1953 as Master
Sergeant, Company B, 160th Infantry Division, 40th Division. Don was
also an accomplished painter and avid outdoors man.

He loved to sail and at one point had multiple boats in different
harbors across Southern California.

Don enjoyed a long and successful career in sales and real estate
before retiring.

Don was also a tremendous humanitarian and booster for various
public organizations and agencies across Big River and Parker.

This included tireless and much dedicated work for the Parker Lions
Club and the Chamber of Commerce. He served as Parker board
director, organized and led the People’s Day Parade. He was also
involved with Take a Kid Fishing, Parker Main Street, Obtaining, the
Big River American Legion and president of the Property Owner’s
Association, to name a few.

He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Sands; sons Mark, James and
David; daughter, April Mayes; granddaughters Naomi Solaiza-Mayes,
Elizabeth Sands, Desiree Sands and Danielle Sands, grandsons Matthew
Sands and Tyler Christian Mayes.

Services are Saturday, March 12, 10 a.m., at Parker Funeral Home
Chapel, with a military service at 11 a.m. at the Parker Cemetery.

A celebration of life is at 1 p.m., at the Parker Senior Center,
1115 12th Street.
