| Camp Verde Bugle, Camp Verde, Arizona Thursday, November 24, 2016 Joyce was born at home in Evansville, Indiana. She met her future husband Fred at a high school party that she went to with a friend. She thought he was “stuck up”, but time shows she changed her mind. They decided to marry after high school, but World War II intruded. Fred joined the Navy, then Joyce joined too, becoming a WAVE. With the war winding down, they married in Boston, Massachusetts when Fred’s ship was in. They had four daughters, born in four different states due to Fred’s wanderlust after they left the Navy. They settled in Page, Arizona in 1965 where Joyce helped run Glen Canyon Federal Credit Union and Fred was a foreman electrician at Glen Canyon Dam. Joyce was an avid seamstress from age 12, sewing clothes for her family. She also loved to cook, especially sweets, and that became her language of love. She made red velvet cake, lemon meringue pies, fudge, divinity at Christmas, German chocolate cakes galore. Joyce and Fred loved the outdoors and took their kids to national parks all over the West. Joyce was preceded in death by husband Fred Flittner of Rimrock and her beloved brother, David Jackson of Evansville, Indiana. Her oldest daughter Linda Joyce, also preceded her in death. She is survived by three daughters; Diane Margaret McCoy and husband Harold of Rimrock, Arizona, Sheri Lynn Fredericksen of Billings, Montana, and Debra Lea Flittner and husband James Hagerman of Portland, Oregon; and seven grandchildren; Lisa, Gregory, Rachel, Angela, Joshua, Amanda and Gretchen; twelve great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She also has two nephews, Jim and Jerry Jackson, of Evansville, Indiana. A memorial celebration is currently planned for what would have been her 95th birthday, March 25, 2017. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family asks that you make a donation in Joyce’s name to a nonprofit charity of your choice that benefits children in need, or the Macular Degeneration Association. ------------------------ Camp Verde Bugle, Camp Verde, Arizona Saturday, March 18, 2017 Margaret Joyce Flittner, born March 25, 1922 in Evansville, Indiana passed away on September 15, 2016 at the age of 94 in Cottonwood, Arizona.
