The Prescott Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, May 31, 1972 Mrs. A. A. Knipe, former PHS principal succumbs Mrs. Alice Adams Knipe, 86, died in Pasadena, Calif., on Sunday, May 21. Born in Prescott on August 11, 1886, Mrs. Knipe was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Amos D. Adams, pioneer residents of Prescott and co-owners of Clark & Adams Lumber Co., an early Prescott timber and lumber business. Mrs. Knipe was a member of the first formal graduating class of Prescott High School in 1909. The entire class consisted of four graduates, all of whom returned to the school 50 years later and received commemorative diplomas from the Prescott School Board. Mrs. Knipe served as principal of Prescott High School for several years and moved to Pasadena in 1920 where she was employed in the Pasadena Public School System until her retirement. Her mother, Katherine Alice Adams, was the third teacher hired by the Prescott School System. Sole survivor is a niece, Mrs. Roxie Webb Sr., of Prescott. Private family services were conducted at the family plot at Mountain View Cemetery this morning. Ruffner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
