Business, civic leader Webb dies

Rockwell L. Webb, Prescott businessman and civic leader for more than 50 years, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1982, at Yavapai Community Hospital. He was 77.

Mr. Webb was born Sept. 1, 1905, in El Paso, Texas.

He came to Prescott Feb. 19, 1929, as a salesman and district manager for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. His headquarters were located in Prescott, but his territory extended from California to the Mexican border.

He met his wife, Harriette Colton, in Flagstaff and they were married on July 31, 1930.

In 1936, Mr. Webb began working at the Ford dealership on the corner of Montezuma and Goodwin streets. He later was president of Webb Motor Agency for 25 years.

He founded Roxie Webb Inc. in 1967 and was a stockbroker and member of the Midwest Stock Exchange from 1961 to 1973.

Mr Webb was a member of the Prescott School Board for 11 years and was one of the organizing members of the Prescott Chamber of Commerce.

He was president of the Prescott Rotary Club in 1939 and was the oldest member in years of active service. He was a Paul Harris Fellow, a member of the Smoki people for many years, a director of the Bagdad Copper Co. for 22 years, an active board member of the Prescott Salvation Army and was active in the American Cancer Society.

He was a life member of the Benevolent Order of Elks Lodge, No. 330, Prescott; State president of the Arizona Automobile Association in 1939; a life member of the Prescott YMCA; and president and organizer of the Prescott Gun Club.

Mr. Webb was a member of the Worshipful Grand Lodge No 1111 in El Paso, Texas, and a member of El Zaribah Shrine in Phoenix for 52 years.

He was a century member of the Grand Canyon Council of Boy Scouts and a sustaining member of the Prescott Jaycees.

Survivors include his wife Harriette; two children, Nancy Webb Ruskin of Fremont, Calif., and Rockwell Colton Webb of Prescott; four grandchildren, William Rockwell Shivell, Karen Colton Shivell, Kendrick Colton Webb and Sarah Kimberly Webb; one sister, Ann Webb Barrett of Prescott; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private family graveside services were held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery. Rev. John C. Hollowell and the Masonic Lodge officiated.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to charitable organizations.
