| Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ >>> Published on Sunday, December 18, 2016 <<< Donald John Smidt, 89, passed away in Lake Havasu City Dec. 12, 2016. He was born to George and Vlasta (Dostal) Smidt in Wisner, Neb. July 7, 1927. Donald was proud to have served his country in the United States Army. He was born and raised in Wisner, Neb. where he met his true love Bernice Ott and married her on May 19, 1946. They were blessed with 55 years together before Bernice went to be with the Lord. They had a loving household where the children came first and harsh words were never spoken. Donald was an ordained school teacher for 35 years at St. Paul’s Lutheran School as well as Choir Director for the church. He was able to lead many students to the Lord throughout his career. He had a love for history and enjoyed traveling to many historic places around the world. Donald is preceded in death by his wife Bernice Smidt, parents George and Vlasta Smidt, and sisters Norma and Doris. He is survived by his daughters: Vickie (Albert) Pastor, Patti (Bubby) Jones, Lisa (Vince) Zarndt and Becky (Rip) Williams, as well as 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren.
