On November 23, 2016 the world lost one of the sweetest, most gentle souls to brain cancer. Dennis Garland Edmundson was born January 17, 1943 to the late Arthur Garland and Ruth (Pipes) Edmundson in Santa Monica, Calif. After graduating from Leuzinger High School in 1960, Dennis worked for Hughes Aircraft when he enlisted in the Army National Guard of California. After his discharge, he went to work for Western Airlines where he held many positions. It was also at Western Airlines where he met his future partner, Patti O’Brien. They were wed on September 21, 1966. In 1970 their son Craig was born and their daughter Stacy was born in 1972. In 1976 Dennis decided to open his own business. He moved his family to Prescott, Arizona and started Prescott Liquors on East Gurley Street. In 1979 he sold the business and worked for several companies: Golden Pacific Airlines in Prescott, Arizona, Marriott and Cater Air in Anchorage, Alaska. After eight years in Anchorage, Dennis missed his beloved Prescott. He and Patti moved back in 1993. For the next 16 years Dennis enjoyed working for United Beverage as a beverage salesman. He also enjoyed fishing in Alaska and cruising. His greatest joy was being with family. In 2011 Dennis was diagnosed with brain cancer at M.D. Anderson in Houston, Texas. Dennis was always a very positive person and this positive attitude gave him the strength to fight against this disease for five years. The family would like to thank his medical team at M.D. Anderson in Houston, Texas, especially Dr. Weinberg and Dr. Loghin. Thank you to our Texas family, the Gibson’s, Bob, Sharon, Brad and Melissa. Also, the medical staff at Arizona Oncology. A special thank you to the wonderful staff at Good Samaritan Society Marley House. Along with his many friends he made at Good Sam’s Hospice Prescott. Thank you to all the support from the family and friends and Preceptor Alpha Delta. Dennis is survived by his wife, Patti, of 50 years; son Craig (Wendy) Edmundson; grandsons Trace and Logan of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter, Stacy (Lyle) Wilhelm and grandsons Tyler and Chase of Prescott, Arizona; sister, Tina (Phil) Volk of Las Vegas, Nevada; mother and father-in-laws, Wilbur and Barbara O’Brien of Anchorage, Alaska; brother-in-laws Bob (Jena) and Don (Marilyn) O’Brien. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including cousins Judi Pearsall, Terry (Norm) Cowdrey, Roger and Wayne Pearsall. And last but not least his best friend from eighth grade, Phil (Bobbie) Box, Albuquerque, New Mexico, whom he talked to every Sunday. As per Dennis’ request, Research For Life handled the arrangements. A Celebration of Life will be held June 3, 2017 in Prescott, Arizona. For information call 928-273-1425.
