Robert (Bob) Haber passed away in Prescott, Arizona on December 10, 2016, after a brief illness. He was a resident of Prescott, Arizona.

Bob was the son of Harold Haber, Sr. and Hilda Lauter Haber. He grew up in San Francisco where he attended Lowell High School and the University of California, Berkeley. During World War II, he served in the Air Force. After playing in the Air Force Band, Bob volunteered to go overseas where he saw action on Iwo Jima.

He wed Barbara Fishstrom beginning a fifteen year marriage which ended in her death in 1968. They had three children, Jim, Rob and Tom.

In 1978 Bob married Pam Straus McKean.

Bob had dual careers: For over twenty-five years, he was the President of Robert Haber Inc., a company that specialized in the administration of profit sharing and pension plans. After selling his company in 1982, he and his wife, Pam, moved to Manhattan in order for him to pursue full-time his long-held passion for composing music. While there, he wrote music for several theatrical musicals. One of them, “The Valentine Touch” was ‘workshopped’ in New York, ran in small venues in Pennsylvania and Connecticut, ending in a full production in North Carolina. This staging was cut short when the producer suffered a stroke.

Bob’s friends from each part of his life remained very important to him. He had a wry sense of humor and a quizzical mind. He read voraciously in many genres, with an unquenchable love of mysteries.

Before the loss of his hearing, his feet were often tapping under the dining room table while conversation continued around him, as he composed music in his head.

He is survived by his “loving, inspiring, devoted” wife (his words), Pamela, of thirty-eight years; his sons by his first wife, Barbara, Robert H. Haber, Thomas A. Haber; his grandson, Robert A. Haber; his stepchildren, Laurie, Kevin, Courtney and Scott McKean; his daughters-in-law, Maristela de Abreu (Tom Haber’s wife), Denise McKean and Julie McKean; his step grandsons, Riley McKean, Noah Guerrero and his step granddaughter, Abby McKean.

In lieu of flowers, Bob requested any contributions be sent to TROOP 14 c/o Calvary Presbyterian Church, 2515 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA 94115 or to Hillsdale College, 33 E. College Street, Hillsdale, MI 49242.
