| The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, December 18, 2016, page 6a - 7a Bob Cornett passed away early Sunday morning on December 11, 2016 in Prescott, Arizona. Bob leaves behind his wife Kay, six children and four grandchildren. Bob was an honorable, trusted and loved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He graduated from San Diego State University in 1954. He was a proud U.S. Marine Corps Reservist from 1947 to 1952 and served as a Sergeant in the 1st Tank Battalion in the Korean War at the Incheon-Seoul, Chosin Reservoir and Central Korea campaigns. Bob worked for State Farm Insurance from January 1955 to June 1993. He was an agent from 1955 to 1976. In 1972 he was asked to be in a State Farm auto insurance national TV commercial. He enjoyed the process and got a kick out of being in the AFTRA union for a year. During his career with State Farm, he also served as an Agency Manager and as a Corporate officer. He most enjoyed being an agent working with his clients and managing his team of agents. In addition to working for State Farm, Bob was active in El Cajon, California city politics from 1960 to 1978, where he served as a city Councilman and twice as Mayor. Bob continued his military career in the U.S. Air Force Reserves at March AFB, Strategic Air Command from 1954 as a Second Lieutenant. In 1972 he earned the rank of Lt. Colonel from the Air War College in Montgomery, AL. He retired in 1980. Other achievements: In 1962 he was awarded with the JAYCEES ‘’San Diego County Young Man of the Year”. In 2000, as a member of the Prescott Noon Lions Club he was Lion of the Year and in 2000 received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. Bob enjoyed backpacking, camping, traveling, reading (Prescott and Arizona history), photography, bird watching and staying active. He proudly enjoyed 20+ years of activity with the Prescott Noon Lion’s Club and 20 plus years of docent volunteering for the Sharlot Hall Museum. Bob will be greatly missed by his wife, his family and his friends. We know where he is now and that he is in the arms of God. Services to be held at the Prescott National Cemetery, in Prescott Arizona (500 AZ-89), on the 29th of December at 11 a.m. Reception to follow at the Las Fuentes Resort Village (1035 Scott Drive). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sharlot Hall Museum (sharlot.org) in memory of Bob Cornett. Information provided by survivors. |
