EVANS, Walter J.

Prescott Evening Courier, Prescott, Arizona Monday, June 30, 1920, page 1, column 5 Man Killed By Blast In Mine Walter J. Evans, 58, a mine employed at the Clark and Adams property near Thumb Butte and about seven miles from Prescott, was killed instantly about 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon when two charges of dynamite exploded in the shaft in which he was working. Evans evidently had been some distance up the 85 foot shaft, it is said, although his body, with the legs covered with rock and debris to the knees, was found in the bottom of the hole. Despite the heavy charges, only two small cuts were found on his head, while the face had several powder burns. A verdict of death as the result of the accidental blast was returned by the coroner's jury, summoned following the accident by Coroner Gordon Clark. The members of the jury included Henry Martin, F. M. Dean, L. S. Norton, L. B. Sykes, Ed Rudy and C. C. Huntington. Deputy Mine Inspector Clifford Murdock of Mayer was notified of the fatal accident soon after it occurred and today was investigating the facts surrounding it. ------------------------------------------- Prescott Evening Courier, Prescott, Arizona Monday, June 30, 1920, page 2, column 2 Funeral Notice - Funeral services for Walter J.
