Aged Teacher Is Summoned In Her Lonely Cabin

The work of a generation on Groom Creek was ended yesterday when death came unexpectedly to 80-year old Alice B. Elliott, at her little cabin near the ranger station.

The first school-teacher at the little settlement on the Senator road was retired to her rest while no human being was near.

Coroner Chas. H. McLane made a trip to the scene and returned last night through a considerable rain-storm, with a verdict of death due to advanced age. Mrs. Elliott had been found dead by a neighbor. She had evidently dropped while starting to prepare her bed.

Mr. and Mrs. Miller (sic Elliott) came to the territory in the early days. The wife taught school at Groom creek 40 years ago.

The husband is buried here and the wife has maintained a plot in the same cemetery, where she will be laid away. Her affairs are said to be in order: she disposed of her small properties by means of a will, said to be on deposit in a local bank.

Mrs. Miller (sic Elliott) will be widely known among pioneers.

Transcriber's note: Mrs. Elliott is buried in an unmarked grave at the Citizen's Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona.
