| Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ >>> Published on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 <<< Maria Cecelia Mejia (Sheila), 66, passed away Jan. 16, 2017 at her home in Lake Havasu City. Sheila was born Nov. 18, 1950 in Contreras, New Mexico. She was the daughter of Roger and Ramona Griego. There was never a dull moment with our mom. She kept you on your toes and on the edge of your seat. We laughed at stories, some real and some not. We argued — a lot. We sang songs that played on her stereo. She let us travel to the coolest places, even when it was only meant for two. She made fun of the colors we dyed our hair and how we cut it, even though she had your hair every color of the rainbow from long to shaved. She told us she didn’t care what we did as long as we were happy, even after tattoos, bad relationships and moving away from her. Mom, you told us you loved us so much even after all of our bad fights and the things we said to each other. We hope you know you were always loved. We know with all of our hearts that you loved us. Sheila is preceded in death by her parents Roger and Ramona Griego, her loving husband Ricardo Mejia, sister Kathy Romero, grandchildren Analissa Barba and Grace Barba. She is survived by her daughters Marla (Joe) Barba, Carla Herrera and Monique Apalategui, grandchildren, who were the loves of her life: Salina Mejia, Ricardo Apalategui, Thomas Apalategui, Diego Apalategui, Houston Barba, Samuel Barba and Max Barba, sisters Sarah Flores, Clara Esparza, Judy Herrera, and Lisa Griego, four nieces and four nephews and all of her beautiful family and friends. Services are set for 4 p.m. Feb. 3, at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for Sheila. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to NAMI in our name online or by mail to NAMI, P.O. Box 62596, Baltimore, Maryland 21264-2596. Services were placed in the care of Lietz-fraze Funeral Home.
