| Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ >>> Published on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 <<< Jo Simon, (Grandma Jo), 90, of Lake Havasu City passed away Jan. 24, 2017 and is now rejoicing in the presence of our Lord and Savior. She was born April 28, 1926 in Detroit to Arthur and Doris VonDolke. On Dec. 1, 1949, she married Howard William Simon. He preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 1986. Jo’s education included nurses’ training. She was employed as a CNA prior to starting her family. Jo raised three children in Maumee, Ohio. Upon the death of her husband, she moved to Kokomo, Indiana, residing 15 years near her youngest daughter and their family. She then moved to sunny Havasu to be closer to her oldest daughter and son-in-law. She enjoyed reading, working puzzles, and coloring, counseling people, volunteering in her church and community, and sharing her faith with others. Her special love was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Grandma Jo always looked forward to her summers in Kokomo where she swam, played games, and spoiled her grandchildren. She enjoyed attending Bible study at Crossroads Church every summer. She is survived by her three children, Nancy (Paul) Stoway, Havasu, John (Peggie) Simon, Toledo, Ohio, and Carol (Tom) Garber, Kokomo, Ind., grandchildren Mark (Pam) Simon, Katie Simon, Brandon (Alicia) Garber, Jerron (Kim) Garber, Ashlin (Matthew) Hadden, and Ryan Kendall; 11 great-grandchildren, Chris, Alac, Aidan, Declan, Isla, Jacob, Ethan, Brianna, Gavin, Coltin and Connor. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Bruce and granddaughter Andrea. Jo was an active member of UMW, Tops, Kops, craft group, avid prayer warrior, tutor with the Literacy Coalition, and a member of American Legion Post #384. Services are set for 1 p.m. Feb. 7 at St. Michaels United Methodist Church in Lake Havasu City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Michaels UMC Vacation Bible School, 2895 South Jamaica Blvd., Lake Havasu, AZ 86406. Working with children was one of her true passions.
